Chapter 10: He’s BAAAACK…

We managed to sneak out of the hospital a few seconds ahead of the police. I’ve just made our situation so much worse than it needed to be. I killed a person and impolitely declined our angelic grandfathers’ request for me and me only to go up and see them. Running around has caused me to grow tired of running away. Away from what, you ask? From humans, Angels, and Demons. Mortal and immortal. All of those things want to either kill my friends and me or want to throw us in jail.

In a nearby alley we were hiding in, I was lying on the ground to take a nap, but I was awoken by whispers. Opening my eyes, I saw Silvia and Goldie sitting close to each other, talking about something. Silvia’s wings were wrapped around the both of them to block out the cold night air.

“I keep seeing him,” Silvia murmured, her head rested on Goldie’s shoulder, “He’s there, I can feel it. The shadows are going wild.”

“He knows better to stay away. I mean, we’ve got you and Snow on defense,” Goldie sounded troubled and slightly annoyed, neither of those emotions revealing themselves onto her face, “Snow didn’t dream of anything. That worries me.”

Silvia furrowed her brows, shifting closer to Goldie, “So explain to me your telepathy again, Goldfinch.”

“I have to concentrate really hard. Don’t ask me to read your mind, okay? It kind of hurts to do it.”

“Of course. Why would I intentionally hurt you?” Silvia frowned, her wings making shifting noises in the otherwise quiet night air.

Goldie laughed nervously, “I’m not saying that you would, Silvie. Never mind,” she shook her head, smiling as she rested it on Silvia’s, “So, we’ve all gotten something from our Angel side, I presume?”

“Yeah. My wings, your telepathy, Snow’s ice powers,” Silvia snickered, “She’s like the real life Elsa.”

            “True.”

It was quiet again for a few minutes, and once I decided to break the silence and yawn, Goldie asked Silvia a question, so I didn’t do it.

“Do you…do you think I’m the most useless one of us three? I mean, telepathy? You have your wings and your silver, and Snow has her ice shards. Telepathy doesn’t help us with anything.”

Silvia sat up and turned to face our friend, frowning in shock, “Telepathy is more useful than you think, Goldfinch. I won’t say anything right now since that Demon is lurking about.”

There was a hissing noise near my ear, making me jump up and bat at whatever was whispering in my ear. The girls whipped their heads to look at me, standing straight up along with me. I looked at them, smiling sheepishly.

“Sorry, guys. One of those shadow things were talking in my ear,” I explained, running my hands over my grimy hospital gown.

“How much do you wanna bet that they were trying to mutter sweet nothings to gain passage to your soul,” Goldie smirked.

I rolled my eyes, eyeing the corner I was laying in, “Hardy-har-har.”

            “Indeed.”

Silvia smiled at our friendly bickering, but her smile faltered at a tiny sound behind us. Her wings widened as she whirled around, glaring at whatever had made the noise.

“Exhibe te!” she called into the darkness as it completely surrounded us. Part of me felt peace in the obscurity of light, but then another piece of me wanted to get out of this situation as quickly as possible. I went with the side that seemed sane enough and held my arms up to shield myself from anything that could hurt me.

There was a hissing noise at the sound of Silvia’s voice, dark eyes glimmering in the gloom. Tenebrae’s muscular body melted from the shadows, eyes settling on me as he began to talk.

“Fancy to meet you three here,” he hissed, smirking.

Goldie growled, eyes blazing, “What do you want you infuriating Demon?”

He raised his arms up in surrender, his gaze never leaving mine, “I’m just here to apologize to your Silver-borne here about the nightmare. I’m sure she would never kill anyone…would you?”

My face grew hot, looking at the ground. Luckily, the girls came to my defense and stood in front of me, saving me from the Demon’s powerful gaze. “Leave her alone!” Silvia muttered, her previously shy personality peeling away, “I will turn you into a silver statue.”

“Aren’t you going to let her take care of herself? She seems like she is capable of that.” Tenebrae said, his voice the only thing I could sense.

“I am, guys. I’m fine,” I mumbled to them, pushing at their shoulders, “Guys, seriously, I’m good. Don’t let him think that he has any power over us.”

The Demon scoffed, his arms lowered down to his sides, “Think? I know I have power over you. All three. Mixed-Blood or no, I would kill you right now if not for the offers I behold,” I raised an eyebrow nodding for him to continue, “Karleil and Friekel would like to have a deal with you.”

            “Such as…?”

“They want you to become assassins, like me,”

Goldie burst out laughing, doubling over and clutching her stomach. Tenebrae growled, a shadow reaching out closer to my friend. On instinct, I shot an icicle out of my hand, nailing it right as it was about to wrap its shadowy limb around her leg. He growled, turning his attention back to me.

“How dare you?” he hissed, glaring daggers at me.

“You were going to make her fall!” I yelled, baring my teeth. What was I doing? I’m not an animal! Then why am I snarling like a polar bear? A new feeling went through my body, something very unfamiliar. My eyes unfocused for a moment, my head pounding.  When they refocused them, it looked like I was seeing through a heat-signature camera. Tenebrae was a dark purple-ish color, his wings a bright red.

“What…what is going on?” I muttered to myself, stumbling backwards. A voice whispered in my head, telling me that this was one of my Demonic attributes.

I could see Tenebrae’s lips curl into a smirk, the bright red shadows around him chuckling, chortling, laughing along with their master, “Just as I expected.”

Goldie, who was a green color except for her face, darted in front of me, scowling, “What did you do to her?”

I looked down at my hands, seeing that they were a light blue color, along with my bare arms. That explains why I’m so tolerant to the cold to a certain degree. I wasn’t even paying attention until someone—or something—screamed, making me whip my head up. The wall was splattered with orange, and there were four red figures. Three of the figures were fighting, and the last one was unmoving on the ground, a puddle of orange-red around it.

“Snowy! Watch it!” Silvia yelled, her red wings spread wide.

I turned, spraying a dark blue figure with ice before it could bite me in the shoulder. But I didn’t notice the blue figure on the ground, and it sank its fangs in my calf through the sweats the hospital gave me. I cried out, falling to the ground.

“Neca!” Tenebrae called, his voice faint.

“Die dixit daemonium habes!” Silvia grunted, turning the ground underneath Tenebrae into pure silver. He hissed, giving his wings one hard flap, and he was gone. Silvia breathed heavily looking back toward me, “Are you alright?”

Everything was fading into black, and I could barely get an answer out. “Mmm no,” I replied haltingly, “I can’t…I can’t see anything.”

For the second time in a time span of two days, I passed out.

I had to search all of dA to find this again since for SOME DAMN REASON it didn't save on my computer. So I copy and pasted it back onto the Word doc and it's all good.
Now I can continue it and try to upload chappers 11 and 12 soon since I barely uploaded anything all February ^^; sorry about that.
I'll be uploading 3 chappers of Winter in Wonderland tomorrow onto sta.sh so they'll be like normal chappers&introductions like they should've been.
